Police Open Possibility of Creating Facial Sketch of Acid Attack Perpetrator Against KontraS Activist
Police are continuing their investigation into the acid attack against activist Andrie Yunus. Police have indicated they may create a facial sketch of the perpetrator.
“We have not yet released a facial sketch of the perpetrator. We are not ruling out (creating a facial sketch),” said Central Jakarta Police (Jakpus) Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKBP Roby Saputra when contacted on Wednesday (18 March 2026).
Roby expressed hope that the perpetrator would be apprehended soon.
“However, what we want is for the case to be resolved and the perpetrator to be caught quickly,” he said.
Facial Image of Alleged Perpetrator That Circulated Was AI-Generated
Metro Jaya Regional Police Public Relations Chief Kombes Budi Hermanto previously explained the photograph of the alleged perpetrator that went viral on social media. Budi emphasised that the image was artificial intelligence (AI) and misleading.
“We also informed that there are developments in the field, including on social media, with photographs appearing to be CCTV screenshots of two individuals,” Budi stated in his remarks on Sunday (15 March 2026).
“We believe that this is the result of AI, and this may also be suspected to be an attempt to mislead the investigation process,” he added.
Budi urged the public to be responsible on social media so that the investigation remains focused and is not disrupted by deliberate interference.
“We hope that the public will also be responsible so that this investigation remains focused and is not disrupted, not affected by things that are deliberately created to mislead,” he said.
Budi also asked the public to give police space and time to investigate the perpetrator of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. He stressed that police would soon apprehend the perpetrator.
“We also ask all members of the public to give investigators space and time, so that the handling of this investigation is comprehensive and we can pursue the perpetrator who carried out the acid attack against the activist,” he added.
As is known, Andrie Yunus was the victim of an acid attack allegedly carried out by two perpetrators in Central Jakarta on Thursday evening (12 March). The incident occurred as Andrie was returning home after attending a podcast event at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI).
