Police Only Investigate Green Taxi Accident with Commuter Train in Bekasi

Dirlantas Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Komarudin, stated that his authority is limited to investigating the accident involving one of Green SM Indonesia’s taxis and the KRL heading towards Cikarang. Meanwhile, the accident between the KRL and the Argo Bromo Anggrek train falls under the jurisdiction of the National Committee for Transportation Safety (KNKT). Komarudin explained that the police are focusing only on the incident at the level crossing. He acknowledged that this event triggered the train accident. “We are focusing on the vehicles at the level crossing. If it’s about the trains, that would be handled by KNKT. We are concentrating on the level crossing and the initial incident that led to the collision between the train and the taxi,” said Komarudin to reporters on Thursday (30/4/2026). For this incident, Komarudin mentioned that a Traffic Accident Analysis (TAA) team from Korlantas and the National Police’s Directorate of Law Enforcement has been deployed. The team is still investigating the elements of negligence that caused the accident. “It could be human error, road factors, or vehicle factors. This is still under review or study by the TAA team,” Komarudin stated. The police have so far refrained from attributing negligence to either the Green SM taxi driver or PT KAI personnel, as the examination process is ongoing until this afternoon. “What we are looking at includes the weather at the time, the condition of the road, the vehicle, and whether there was any negligence by the driver. This is still under our review or study,” Komarudin added. The police are conducting a series of examinations to uncover the cause of the train accident in Bekasi. One of those examined is the Green SM taxi driver who broke down at Bekasi Timur Station. The taxi is suspected of sparking the accident after stalling at the railway crossing and being hit by the KRL. However, the police have not yet detailed the results of these examinations. Polda Metro Jaya continues to pursue the accident case by gathering statements from KAI officers, including the train driver, station staff, and railway police from PT KAI. Previously, an online taxi, the KRL, and the long-distance Argo Bromo Anggrek train were involved in this accident. As of 29 April 2026, the total number of casualties stands at 106, with 90 people injured. The remaining 16 passengers lost their lives.
