Police on Alert Around Istiqlal Tomorrow to Prevent Illegal Parking
The Head of Traffic Directorate of Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes Komarudin, stated that his team will deploy personnel around Masjid Istiqlal in Jakarta to anticipate illegal parking practices. “We will spread out our officers. Follow the instructions and directions of our officers in the field,” Komarudin advised at Bundaran HI, Jakarta, on Friday (20/3), as quoted by Detik. He also reminded the public planning to perform Eid prayers at Masjid Istiqlal not to follow directions from illegal parking attendants. This is to avoid congestion that often occurs due to illegal parking in the area. “We also urge the public not to follow instructions usually given by illegal parking attendants, which typically only cause blockages or problems on the roads,” Komarudin said. Roads leading to Masjid Istiqlal, especially Jalan Juanda, are often filled with illegally parked vehicles during Eid prayers. This phenomenon causes congestion on several surrounding roads. As a preventive measure, police officers will be stationed at several points to regulate traffic flow and prevent illegal parking. Members of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police assigned to Operation Ketupat 2026 will be deployed for security. In addition, police have begun securing Muhammadiyah congregants’ Eid prayers taking place today, Friday. Security for Eid prayers tomorrow at other locations has also been prepared. “Soon we will carry out security operations for Eid prayers for our Muhammadiyah brothers, yes. At half past six, we will deploy, at several points including one of the largest in Menteng,” Komarudin said. The government has set Eid al-Fitr 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah on 21 March 2026 following the Isbat session on Thursday (19/3). Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah has determined Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah on Friday, 20 March 2026. This determination is stated in the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah’s Announcement Number 2/MLM/1.0/E/2025 on the Determination of the Results of the Calculation of Ramadan, Syawal, and Zulhijah 1447 H. Previously, Komarudin also advised Jakarta residents not to hold convoys during the takbiran night celebrations to maintain security. To secure various activities during the Lebaran celebrations, joint TNI-Polri personnel are stationed at locations expected to be visited by many people. “For the Sudirman-Thamrin road itself, no fewer than 557 personnel are deployed, because there are several roads that we will later re-engineer, including anticipating if there is high enthusiasm from the public coming to this place,” Komarudin said.
