Police: Officers Focused on Identifying Perpetrator of Acid Attack on Kontras Deputy Coordinator

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police are committed to thoroughly investigating the acid attack against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras).

The Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metro Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated in Jakarta on Sunday (15 March 2026) that investigators are working exceptionally hard in the field.

“The police force’s primary focus is to uncover the identity and apprehend the perpetrator behind this criminal act that harms democracy through a ‘scientific crime investigation’ approach,” he said.

Hermanto added that the Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, has also given special attention to ensure that the incident involving the spraying of hazardous liquid on this activist becomes a top priority. The force is conducting in-depth analysis based on criminal science.

“Let us give space to the combined team from the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metro Police to work quickly to uncover and apprehend the perpetrator,” he said.
