Police officer who shot dead a teenager in Makassar becomes a suspect, here is the chronology of the incident
Makassar — The death of a teenager in Makassar as a result of being shot by a police officer has drawn serious public attention. The victim, Bertrand Eka Prasetyo (18), died after a bullet fired from Iptu N’s pistol struck him on Jalan Toddopuli Raya, Rappocini District, Makassar, on Sunday (1 March 2026) at approximately 07:00 WITA. Iptu N has now been named a suspect.
The Makassar City Police Chief (Kombes) Arya Perdana said the incident began with a report from the Rappocini Police Chief around 07:00 in the morning about several youths who were playing with a toy gun of the omega type. The report was transmitted via a handy-talkie radio.
“And it was reported that the youths who were playing with the omega rifle intercepted passersby, then pointed the gun at people on the street, and also wounded people who were on the street,” said Kombes Arya.
Following the report, Iptu N, a police officer who heard the report, went to the location where the youths were playing with the toy gun. “When he arrived at the scene (TKP), at the same time a youth named Bertrand was apparently taking action against one of the motorcyclists, so Iptu N got out of the car and immediately conducted an arrest,” said Kombes Arya.
Iptu N arrested Bertrand, holding him so he would not run away. Iptu N also, according to Kombes Arya, fired a warning shot.
“After the warning shot was fired, the other youths fled. Only Bertrand, who had been apprehended earlier, remained,” said Kombes Arya.
However, according to Kombes Arya, Bertrand briefly attempted to flee. “He tried to escape (by) wriggling,” said Kombes Arya.
