Tangerang Regency — A police officer identified by the initials Bripka AI has been named a suspect in a case involving fraud and embezzlement of a rental vehicle. The case is being handled by the Tangerang City Police (Polresta Tangerang).

“The individual concerned has now been designated a suspect and the investigation process is still underway,” said Tangerang City Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Andi Muhammad Indra Waspada Amirullah, in Tangerang on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

Following his designation as a suspect, Bripka AI has been detained by the Professional and Security Division (Propam). However, Indra stressed that the officer still retains his status as a member of the Indonesian National Police while his ethics hearing proceeds.

“Because the ethics process is still ongoing, once a decision is handed down, we will then apply the criminal proceedings,” he said.

For his actions, Bripka AI has been charged under Article 492 of the Criminal Code (KUHP), which carries a maximum sentence of four years’ imprisonment.

Previously, the officer — attached to Tangerang City Police under the Banten Regional Police — had been given a demotion after being found to have been involved in fraud and embezzlement of a rental car.

“A decision has already been issued — a demotion and special detention, which in police terms is called special placement,” said the Head of the Internal Security Section at Tangerang City Police, Adjunct Commissioner Imam Ruspandi, in Tangerang on Monday, 16 February 2026.

The police officer was reported for allegedly embezzling a rental car by pawning a white Toyota Calya with registration number B 2479 JUL to a third party for Rp25 million.

Imam said the officer had undergone a police disciplinary hearing over the matter, which involved reports from two victims of fraud as well as a further victim related to a debt dispute.

“There is another victim named Ibu Tati, whose money — approximately Rp50 million — was borrowed but has not yet been returned,” he said.
