The actions of a police officer who stuck his tongue out while securing a student demonstration in Bengkulu have resulted in disciplinary sanctions. The Bengkulu Regional Police (Polda Bengkulu) have imposed disciplinary measures against the personnel deemed to have engaged in such inappropriate behaviour.

The incident took place while police were securing a student protest held in commemoration of National Farmers’ Day at the Bengkulu Governor’s Office courtyard on Thursday, 24 September 2026.

The Head of Public Relations for the Bengkulu Regional Police, Commissioner Imam Wijayanto, stated that the force has conducted an evaluation and investigation into the incident.

“Polda Bengkulu has carried out an evaluation and examination regarding the events that occurred during the service of the demonstration at the Bengkulu Provincial Government office on 24 September 2026,” said Imam in Bengkulu City on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

According to Imam, the personnel involved in the action have been detained and subjected to disciplinary action.

He also extended an apology to the public for the attitude of the Bengkulu Regional Police personnel, which was deemed not to reflect humane service while performing security duties.

“The sanction was issued after Polda Bengkulu conducted an evaluation and examination of the incident,” he said.

Imam noted that the sanction is part of an internal evaluation by the Bengkulu Regional Police and an effort to maintain the quality of public service.

He emphasised that every officer must prioritise professionalism and a humane approach when performing duties, including when escorting members of the public expressing their aspirations.

“The National Police (Polri) continues to strive to provide services that prioritise a humane, professional attitude and respect for the community, including in every security activity involving the expression of aspirations,” he added.

He further noted that the evaluation was conducted to ensure all personnel understand and perform their duties in accordance with the regulations and values that serve as guidelines for public service.

The Bengkulu Regional Police hope that this disciplinary action will serve as a lesson for all personnel to better maintain their attitude, speech, and actions when serving the community.

“We also invite the public to continue building good communication, so that the expression of aspirations can take place safely, orderly, and within an atmosphere of mutual respect,” said Imam.
