Police Officer on KPK Staff Named Suspect in Pemalang Regent Extortion Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named a member of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) as a suspect in an alleged extortion case involving Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro. The suspect is a Polri officer seconded as an administrative staff member at the anti-corruption agency. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed the individual’s legal status at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Thursday (30/7/2026). This determination is a development from the 18th sting operation (OTT) conducted by the KPK throughout 2026. Based on the case review, the KPK has divided the case into two main clusters. Budi explained that investigators are currently focusing on the early stages of the case. The KPK is also open to the possibility of other victims of similar practices by the individual. Following the involvement of its administrative staff in extortion, the KPK stated it is conducting a deep internal introspection. Budi stressed that the agency will take corrective steps to prevent similar incidents from recurring. ‘We will focus on improvement measures, both through systemic and individual approaches, so that we can carry out early mitigation and prevention to ensure such issues do not happen again,’ Budi said. Anom Widiyantoro and three other individuals have officially worn the orange suspect vests since 30 July 2026. The KPK has promised that details of each suspect’s role will be presented further in an upcoming press conference.
