Police Officer Ipda Aris Sentenced to Eight Years' Imprisonment for Murder of Brigadir Nurhadi
The Mataram District Court Panel of Judges has handed down an eight-year prison sentence to defendant Ipda I Gde Aris Chandra Widianto in connection with the death of Brigadir Muhammad Nurhadi. Aris was found guilty of committing aggravated assault and evidence tampering.
The panel of judges, chaired by Lalu Moh Sandi Iramaya, determined in its ruling that defendant I Gde Aris Chandra Widianto was proven beyond reasonable doubt guilty of committing aggravated assault and obstructing justice by tampering with evidence.
“I Gde Aris Chandra is found guilty beyond reasonable doubt of committing the crime of aggravated assault and obstructing justice or destroying evidence,” stated judge Sandi on Monday (9 March 2026).
Aris was found to have violated Article 468 subsection (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code and Article 221 subsection (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 letter a or c of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
Consequently, Aris was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment. “The defendant is hereby sentenced to imprisonment for a period of eight years. The defendant is to remain in custody,” the judge stated.
The judge also imposed an additional penalty requiring Aris to pay compensation and restitution to Elma Agustina, the widow and heir of Brigadir Nurhadi, in the amount of 385.77 million rupiah.
The restitution payment was determined based on an assessment from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) under Number R.6128/5.2.HSKR/LPSK/10/2025 dated 16 October 2025.
If the amount is not paid by Aris within 30 days, his assets or income may be seized and sold by the prosecutor to settle the restitution. “Should this prove insufficient or impossible to execute, the defendant shall be subject to a substitute prison sentence of two years,” the judge stated.
The sentence imposed by the panel of judges matched the request made by the prosecutor. Similarly, the restitution payment requirement matched the amount sought by the prosecutor.
It should be noted that Ipda Aris is a co-defendant in this case alongside Colonel I Made Yogi Purusa Utama. Colonel Yogi received a 14-year prison sentence and was ordered to pay restitution of 385.77 million rupiah, with an alternative of two years’ additional imprisonment.
Brigadir Nurhadi died at Villa Tekek The Beach House Resort on Gili Trawangan following a gathering involving alcohol and narcotics consumption with Colonel Yogi, Ipda Aris, and two women, Misri Puspita Sari and Meylani Putri, on the evening of Wednesday, 16 April 2025.
The two women were hired by Colonel Yogi and Ipda Aris. In this case, Misri Puspita Sari has also been named as a suspect, though she has not yet been tried. Her case file has only recently been declared complete.
