Police Officer Injured While Dispersing Tyre-Burning Protesters at DPR

A demonstration in front of the DPR/MPR RI building in Central Jakarta briefly escalated when protesters attempted to burn tyres, prompting immediate intervention by security forces. A police officer was injured while dispersing the crowd.

Tanah Abang Police Chief AKBP Dhimas Prasetyo explained that the incident occurred as officers were facilitating the protest. A minor clash broke out between police and the demonstrators.

“There was a slight scuffle with the students, as we requested that they refrain from burning tyres. Tyres are not considered permitted props during demonstrations,” AKBP Dhimas Prasetyo told reporters at the scene on Monday (15/6/2026).

AKBP Dhimas stated that the minor friction between police and protesters resulted in an officer being pushed, falling, and sustaining a leg injury.

“In practice, there was a slight scuffle involving some pushing and shoving, and perhaps the officer was injured as a result. He may have been pushed and fell; he did fall, so we evacuated him for medical treatment,” he said.

The injured officer, identified as Aipda Dyan, was taken for medical care.

“He was having some difficulty walking, so we were assisted by colleagues to bring him inside the DPR building for treatment,” he added.

Polda Metro Jaya deployed thousands of personnel to ensure the smooth conduct of the protest. A total of 6,675 joint personnel from the National Police, the Indonesian Armed Forces, and the Transportation Agency were mobilised.

Protesters concentrated at several points, including in front of the DPR/MPR RI building, the National Monument, the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, and the National Nutrition Agency building.

Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Kombes Budi Hermanto, stated that the security measures were in place to ensure that the expression of public opinion remained safe, orderly, and did not disrupt community activities.

“Polda Metro Jaya has prepared 6,675 joint personnel to secure the entire series of public expression actions. Personnel will be stationed at strategic points to guarantee the safety of both protesters and members of the public active in the surrounding areas,” Kombes Budi said in a statement to reporters on Monday (15/6).
