A member of the Tangerang Metropolitan Police, First Brigadier (Bripka) Ade Irfan, has been named a suspect in an alleged fraud case. The officer, assigned to the Samapta Bhayangkara (Sabhara) unit, is accused of pawning a rented vehicle to a third party.

The case began when Bripka Ade rented a white Toyota Calya with registration plate B 2479 JUL. The vehicle was then allegedly pawned for approximately Rp25 million. Two victims suffered losses as a result of the police officer’s alleged fraud scheme.

Tangerang Metropolitan Police Chief, Commissioner Indra Waspada, stated that Bripka Ade had been detained by the Professional and Security Division (Propam) and is now undergoing legal proceedings that have entered the investigation stage at the Criminal Investigation Unit.

“The individual in question is already a suspect and the investigation process is still ongoing,” said Indra on Tuesday (24 February).

Despite having been named a suspect, Indra explained that Bripka Ade remains officially registered as a member of the Indonesian National Police, as the ethics tribunal proceedings are still underway.

“Because the ethics process is still running, once a decision has been made, we will then proceed with the criminal case,” he explained.

In relation to the fraud case, Indra stated that Bripka Ade has been charged under Article 492 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of four years’ imprisonment.
