Police Officer in Gianyar Nominated for Hoegeng Awards 2026 for Supporting Children with Disabilities
Ipda Kadek Sumerta, the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Blahbatuh Police Station, has been named as a nominee for the 2026 Hoegeng Awards. Sumerta earned the nomination for his long-standing dedication to mentoring children with disabilities at a foundation in Siangan Village, Gianyar Regency.
The Gianyar Police Chief, AKBP James Irianov Syaloom Rajagukguk, stated that his officer’s achievement is a tangible manifestation of the Indonesian National Police’s commitment to protecting vulnerable groups. “This serves as a form of appreciation for his dedication and commitment to providing protection, service, and assistance to the community, particularly to women, children, and vulnerable groups,” James said in a statement on Sunday (2/8/2026).
Sumerta’s work in supporting children with disabilities has spanned a decade. He has consistently provided guidance, positive encouragement, and motivation to help these children build the confidence necessary to navigate life and interact with society.
James explained that alongside Sumerta, two other police personnel qualified for the nomination: AKP Siti Elminawati from the Sigi Police Resort and AKBP Ema Rahmawati from the Directorate of Crimes Against Women and Children (PPA) and Human Trafficking (PPO) of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri).
Ultimately, the award was won by AKBP Ema Rahmawati. Nevertheless, Sumerta’s achievement remains highly regarded and is a source of pride for the Gianyar Police. “This serves as proof that the dedication, sincerity, and professionalism of our members in serving the community are recognised at a national level. We hope this achievement motivates all personnel to continue improving the quality of our services to be more humane, professional, and high in integrity,” James emphasised.
The Hoegeng Awards is an annual programme designed to honour members of the Indonesian National Police who demonstrate high levels of integrity, exemplary conduct, and dedication to duty. Sumerta’s inclusion in the national nomination list is expected to further strengthen the Gianyar Police’s commitment to providing the best protection and service to the public.
