Police Officer in Bulukumba Arrested for Alleged Attempted Rape

A member of the Indonesian National Police, Bripda AS, has been arrested by the Professional and Security Division (Propam) of the Bulukumba Police in South Sulawesi following an alleged attempted sexual assault against a woman, NA (26).

“Yes, Bripda AS has been secured in the Propam room of the Bulukumba Police after a report was filed regarding the alleged attempted sexual assault,” said Bulukumba Police Propam Chief Iptu Andi Panangrangi in a statement on Thursday (20/8).

The incident began when Bripda AS contacted NA through WhatsApp. The two had previously become acquainted through the social media platform TikTok. AS then visited the victim’s boarding house.

“While at the location, Bripda AS entered the bathroom to urinate. Afterwards, he lay down on the bed in the room,” he explained.

However, when the victim was about to leave for work and wanted to retrieve her motorcycle keys, Bripda AS allegedly pulled the victim into the room and closed the door, then pushed NA towards the back of the door, leading to a struggle between the two.

“This action made the victim suspicious, and she then screamed for help from nearby residents,” he said.

Following the incident, AS was reported to the Bulukumba Police Propam and was immediately arrested for further examination.

“Bripda AS is currently under the supervision of the Bulukumba Police Propam and will undergo detention for seven days for examination purposes,” he stated.
