Police Officer from Damai Cartenz Task Force Killed in Yahukimo Stabbing

A member of the Damai Cartenz Task Force, Brigadier Fredi Lukas Awes, has died while on duty in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan. The police officer was reportedly stabbed by an unknown assailant.

The victim was identified as Brigadier Fredi Lukas Awes, a personnel under the operational control of the Damai Cartenz Task Force, according to the Deputy Head of the Damai Cartenz Operation Public Relations Task Force, AKBP Andri Alam, on Wednesday (22/7/2026).

The victim was found in the Halabok Paradiso agricultural road complex, Dekai District, on Monday (20/7) at around 11.30 pm Eastern Indonesian Time. Police are currently investigating the incident.

Officers immediately secured the crime scene, conducted a crime scene investigation, collected evidence, took witness statements, and are carrying out an investigation and pursuit of the perpetrator suspected of committing the assault that resulted in the victim’s death.
