Police officer fractures knee while securing protest at Parliament Complex
A member of the Indonesian National Police sustained a fracture while securing a demonstration by the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PMII) in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) building on Monday (22/6). The officer, identified as AKBP Adri Desas Furyanto, suffered a fractured right patella after falling while trying to extinguish a fire.
Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung, confirmed the injury. “Medical diagnosis indicates the victim suffered a fracture of the right patella,” Reynold stated on Wednesday.
Head of Public Relations for the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Inspector Erlyn Sumantri, explained that the officer, who serves as Head of the Planning Division, was injured while attempting to put out a fire started by protesters. “The chronology is that Pak Adri was securing the PMII protest route when a minor disturbance occurred as demonstrators tried to burn a tyre. He was attempting to extinguish the fire when he fell,” Erlyn said. He added that the officer is currently undergoing treatment at the Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.
A video previously circulated on social media showing a police officer with a leg injury during the security operation at the DPR/MPR complex on Monday. The footage depicted the disturbance occurring as protesters burned a replica coffin at the main gate while officers tried to put out the flames.
