Police Officer DP Dies Following Assault by Superior, Family Demands Life Imprisonment
Officer DP Dies After Being Abused by Senior, Family Demands Life Sentence The family of Officer DP (19), who died after being abused by a senior officer at the South Sulawesi (Sulsel) Police dormitory, has requested that the case be investigated transparently and that the suspect be given the maximum penalty of dismissal from the force. “We request that the law be enforced transparently. If possible, the perpetrator should be sentenced to life imprisonment and dismissed from the force; that is our hope as the victim’s parents and family,” said the victim’s father, Aipda Muhammad Jabir, on Tuesday (24 February). In the investigation of the case, investigators from the South Sulawesi Police have named Officer P as a suspect. The family welcomes the fact that a suspect has been identified in the death of Officer DP, who was a non-commissioned officer from the 2025 graduating class. “We are very grateful that the Internal Affairs Division and the investigators of the South Sulawesi Police have named a suspect in the abuse of our son, Officer Dirja Pratama,” he said. Although someone has been held accountable for the incident, Jabir asked the police to continue to investigate thoroughly all those involved. “As parents, we ask the investigators to be transparent and to investigate further, not to stop at just one suspect,” he concluded. Previously, the Chief of the South Sulawesi Police, Inspector General of Police Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro, stated that the initial report indicated that Officer DP (19) had died after hitting his head, following an initial report. “The initial report we received stated that the victim had died after hitting his head. That was the first report we heard,” said Djuhandhani at the Pinrang Police Station on Monday (23 February). The victim was taken to hospital by several colleagues after suffering violence from a senior officer in the Samapta dormitory of the South Sulawesi Police. However, the victim could not be saved. “(The victim was taken to hospital) while still conscious,” he explained. Meanwhile, the police have named one of the victim’s senior officers, Officer P, as a suspect in connection with the alleged abuse of Officer DP. “We are also still questioning these five officers, including a classmate of the victim, who did not report the incident and tried to cover it up,” he said. However, Djuhandhani admitted that he was not yet sure of the motive behind the violence in the Samapta dormitory of the South Sulawesi Police. “We are still investigating the motive, and we are trying to answer the public’s questions about this case by naming one of the victim’s senior officers as a suspect, Officer DP,” he concluded.
