Police: No Violence During Mediation Between Alphard Driver and Security Guard

Police have stated there was no violence or physical assault during the mediation process between a Toyota Alphard driver and a security guard following an incident where the car ran a traffic light at a pelican crossing in front of the Pullman Hotel, Central Jakarta. Menteng Metropolitan Police Chief AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu also denied circulating information alleging intimidation, including claims that the security guard was forced to prostrate himself or threatened with job loss. “We are still investigating the circulating information. So far, there is no evidence of any hitting or violence,” Braiel said in a statement on Thursday (23/7). Nevertheless, Braiel invited any party who feels aggrieved or possesses evidence related to the alleged intimidation and violence to come forward. “If any party feels disadvantaged or has other evidence, we invite them to file a report so we can process it according to applicable regulations,” Braiel stated. Braiel added that the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police is also investigating the alleged traffic violation committed by the Alphard driver, including the suspected use of a non-compliant vehicle registration plate. Previously, a video circulated on social media showing a Toyota Alphard running a traffic light at the pelican crossing in front of the Pullman Hotel, Central Jakarta, leading to a quarrel with a security guard. In the video posted by the Instagram account @jakpus24jam.id, several pedestrians were seen crossing at the pelican crossing after the traffic light turned red for vehicles. However, an Alphard continued driving and ran the red light. A security guard who was also crossing then reprimanded the Alphard driver, but the driver allegedly did not accept the warning. “The security guard then admonished the driver by banging on the car window. The driver did not accept the security officer’s action and a verbal altercation ensued,” Braiel said. Braiel explained that both parties subsequently went to a police post to seek help resolving the issue through mediation. Afterwards, both sides agreed to reconcile. “The matter was settled amicably with mediation assistance from the Police Post Chief at the Thamrin Police Post. Once resolved, the driver continued his journey and the security guard returned to work,” he said.
