A man with the initials WH (47) was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in a room at the St Regis hotel in South Jakarta. Police have stated there was no involvement of any other party in the victim’s death.

"Based on the results of the police investigation, to date we have not found any involvement of another party in the victim’s death," said South Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Head AKP Joko Adi Wibowo to reporters on Monday (20/7/2026).

Police have examined the victim’s personal driver and communicated with the victim’s family. As a result, the victim’s family acknowledges that the death did not involve any other party.

"Our further investigation yesterday also included re-examining the victim’s driver, following prior communication with the family and the driver," he revealed. "This means the family realises this was a tragedy experienced by the victim. The family also acknowledges that there is suspected to be no involvement of another party."

Police discovered a firearm at the scene. They confirmed the weapon belonged to the victim. "Developments in the investigation regarding the person found deceased, where a firearm was also discovered at the scene," he explained.

Joko stated that based on the crime scene investigation, a firearm and the victim’s identification were found. Police also discovered firearm ownership documents matching the victim’s identity. "Regarding the firearm ownership, we checked the scene and found the victim’s identification and the firearm. We also found the firearm permit. This permit matches the victim’s identity," he clarified.

Upon verification, the firearm was legally owned by the victim. This was further evidenced by the victim’s fingerprints being found on the weapon. "After checking, this weapon is indeed a legal firearm; the individual concerned owned a firearm," he stated. "Furthermore, the fingerprints on the weapon found at the scene were compared with the victim’s fingerprints and they were identical. This means the person holding the firearm was the victim," he concluded.

WH was found dead on Wednesday, 15 July 2026. WH was a senior executive at a company. His death in the hotel room is suspected to be a suicide while he was staying there. Police emphasised there is no criminal element related to WH’s death. "The suspected cause of death is believed to be taking his own life," said Joko. "There is no criminal element, it was an intention to end his own life," he added.
