Police: No Mother and Child in Cayla Vehicle, Only Driver and His Girlfriend

Jakarta — Police have named HM (24), a resident of Sidoarjo, East Java, as a suspect after he engaged in reckless driving in a black Toyota Cayla on Gunung Sahari Street, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (25 February 2026). The suspect was confirmed to have been driving the vehicle with his girlfriend, a resident of Karawang, West Java.

AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Central Jakarta Metro Police, stated that the suspect was alone in the vehicle with his girlfriend. He confirmed there were no mother and child inside the car that was driving against traffic on Gunung Sahari Street. This clarification was made following reports from eyewitnesses who claimed to have seen a mother and child exiting the vehicle.

“So at the time of the incident, there were no mother and child in the vehicle,” he said on Friday (27 February 2026).

Roby acknowledged that a mother and child were present at the scene of the incident. However, they were not inside the vehicle but rather were victims of the reckless driving. “Indeed, at the time of the incident there was a mother and child, but they were not in the vehicle; rather, they were victims of a motorcyclist who also interacted with that vehicle,” he explained.

The driver of the vehicle is a resident of Sidoarjo, East Java. Inside the vehicle, the suspect was accompanied by a woman from Karawang, West Java, who is his girlfriend.
