Investigators from the Morowali Police Criminal Investigation Unit have named three suspects in a mob assault that led to the death of a man, identified by the initials S (33), who was suspected of motorcycle theft in Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi.

“It is true, three individuals have been named as suspects, namely NR, MS, and MSHA,” stated the Deputy Chief of Morowali Police, Commissioner I Nyoman Raka Arya Wiyasa, on Friday (31/7).

Nyoman confirmed that the three suspects were involved in the mob assault that resulted in S’s death at the crime scene on Saturday (25/7). “Their role involved participating in the beating which caused the victim’s death,” he said.

Nyoman Raka noted that the crime was ultimately uncovered following the interrogation of several witnesses. “We have sufficient evidence to follow up on the case,” he explained.

In addition to the three suspects, investigators are continuing their investigation based on electronic evidence in the form of video footage held by the police. There is a strong possibility of new suspects being identified in this case. “We are still investigating who else was involved,” he added.

The suspects are charged under Article 262, Clause 4 of Law Number 1 of 2023 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding mob violence or collective violence against persons or property in public. “They face a potential prison sentence of up to 12 years,” he concluded.
