The Medan City Police have named a suspect in the case of the explosion at the Grand Polonia housing complex on Jalan Mustang, Medan Polonia District, which killed three people.

“It is true that there is already a suspect,” said the Head of Criminal Investigation at Medan City Police, AKBP Adrian Risky Lubis, to CNNIndonesia.com on Wednesday (19/8).

However, AKBP Adrian was not yet willing to disclose the identity or the number of suspects who have been named. According to him, complete information regarding the investigation results will be conveyed directly in the near future.

“We will release it later. The leadership will convey it directly,” he explained.

Previously, a large explosion occurred at house number 3B in the Grand Polonia housing complex on Monday (20/7) at around 3.30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. As a result of the explosion, the three-storey house suffered severe damage, with most of the building structure collapsing.

Not only did it destroy the house that was the centre of the explosion, the building rubble also fell on at least seven cars. A number of houses on the left, right and front sides of the building also suffered damage due to the strength of the blast wave.

The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation by the police and related teams. However, initial investigation results point to a suspected gas leak from an underground pipe network in the area of the house.

As a result of the explosion, three occupants of the house died. The three victims were Jesika, the wife of the homeowner, Ros, a domestic worker, and Sinta, a babysitter.

Meanwhile, four other people suffered injuries, namely Jeavelin (2), the child of the homeowner, Hasan, a driver, and a courier named Yuda.
