Police name Senen most dangerous area

JAKARTA: The Senen commercial district in Central Jakarta has the highest incidence of crimes committed in the municipality as the police said 20 percent of all crimes recorded were committed in the area.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Tjiptono said on Saturday that the other crime-prone areas were Tanah Abang, Roxi, the National Monument (Monas) park and Kemayoran.

"Senen is a pickpockets and hoodlums' haven," he said, adding that Senen also frequently experienced brawls, murder and robbery.

Senen Police chief Adj. Comr. Eddy Haryanto said that the police would carry out shock therapy against criminals operating in Senen. He did not elaborate.

Eddy added that the police would also construct two more police posts in the commercial district. Currently there are three police posts there. -- Antara
