Police name four suspects in Banyumas premeditated murder case

The Banyumas City Police have named four people as suspects in the premeditated murder of Ebi Mulyono Subagio (67), a resident of Arcawinangun, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, citing motives of an affair and a desire to control the victim’s assets. Banyumas Police Chief Commissioner Petrus P. Silalahi stated during a press conference that the four suspects are identified by the initials IE (61), the victim’s legal wife, AM alias BP (51), JN alias A (42), and RS (28). “The motive for this premeditated murder is an affair and the intention to seize the victim’s property,” he confirmed. The case began with a police report on 27 June 2026, after the victim was found dead at his home on Jalan Masjid Baru Number 9, Arcawinangun, East Purwokerto. Investigations revealed the murder had been planned since January 2026 by IE and AM, with the plot refined repeatedly until it was executed on 26 June 2026. The romantic relationship between IE and AM started in August 2025 via TikTok and WhatsApp, without them ever meeting in person. In their communications, IE frequently complained about the victim’s treatment and issues regarding land certificates and vehicle ownership documents that had been handed over to the victim’s child. The suspects initially planned various methods to kill the victim, including black magic, poison, and an anaesthetic injection, but all these plans failed, leading them to resort to physical violence. “The black magic failed, the injection was not carried out, the poison was also not used, so they ultimately used violence,” he explained. On the night of the murder, IE prepared a wooden block, an electrical cable, and a hammer inside the house and opened the door for the executors. Suspect AM then struck the victim repeatedly with the wooden block, while JN wrapped the electrical cable around the victim’s neck and they pulled it together until the victim died. Meanwhile, RS acted as the driver of a rented car used to transport the perpetrators and was aware of the murder plan but did not report it to law enforcement. After the murder, IE handed over a motorcycle to AM as a promised reward. The vehicle was later pawned in Banten to pay for the car rental and other expenses. IE even attempted to cover her tracks by reporting to neighbours that the victim’s motorcycle was missing and calling the 110 emergency line to report a suspected vehicle theft. However, suspicion arose after a resident, who is also an ambulance driver, noticed the condition of the victim’s body, suspected death by violence, and immediately reported it to the police. Petrus stated that all suspects were arrested within less than 48 hours, beginning with IE’s arrest in Banyumas, followed by RS, JN, and AM in Banten Province. For their actions, IE, AM, and JN are charged under Article 459, subsidiary to Article 458 in conjunction with Article 20 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, related to premeditated murder, which carries a penalty of death, life imprisonment, or a maximum of 20 years’ imprisonment. RS is charged under Article 459, subsidiary to Article 458 Paragraph (1) and Paragraph (3) in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023, facing the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a maximum of 20 years, and/or Article 254 Paragraph (1) letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023, which carries a maximum of one year’s imprisonment, for participating in the premeditated murder and failing to report the criminal plan. The Police Chief commended the investigators for swiftly solving the case and affirmed that the investigation will continue professionally until the case file is handed over to the public prosecutor.
