Police name Bekasi angkot driver who damaged car as suspect
The Bekasi Selatan Police have named a public minivan (angkot) driver with the initials AA (20) as a suspect in a case of vehicle damage and attempted assault against another motorist in the Bekasi area. Bekasi Selatan Police Chief Kompol Suparmin confirmed the arrest of the suspect, whose road rampage had gone viral on social media. “The perpetrator, with the initials AA, aged 20, has been secured. His status is now a suspect,” Suparmin said. Suparmin explained that based on preliminary investigations, the incident was triggered by a momentary fit of road rage. The suspect admitted he was annoyed because he was not given way when trying to overtake the victim’s vehicle. Suparmin also confirmed that the victim has officially filed a police report at the Bekasi Selatan Police. For his actions, suspect AA is currently detained and charged with articles related to property damage. Suparmin stated that investigators applied Article 521 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning vandalism. The suspect was not charged with assault because the physical attack did not land on the victim. “The perpetrator is charged with vandalism. This is because the blow did not hit the victim, as the victim managed to dodge,” Suparmin said. A video previously circulated on the Instagram social media account @lbj_jakarta showing a public minivan driver damaging another motorist’s vehicle. “This anarchic incident was triggered because the perpetrator was emotional after not being given way when trying to cut into a traffic jam. The first act of blocking was carried out by the perpetrator in the Kemang Pratama area by placing a flower pot in the middle of the road while hurling insults,” the account wrote. The account also stated that the thuggish act peaked when the perpetrator brutally damaged the victim’s vehicle by hitting the right door and smashing the window on the driver’s side.
