Police nab more robbery suspects

JAKARTA: Jakarta Police arrested another five alleged members of the Ishak robbery gang over the weekend, an officer said on Tuesday.

"The five were involved in a robbery in Kudus, Central Java, last April. The suspects shot officer Brig. Sumari to death and injured Adj. Second Insp. Kuswanto in an armed robbery," chief of detectives Sr. Comr. Mathius Salempang said.

Last week, the police arrested 17 alleged members of the Ishak gang, which is thought to have been behind at least 45 robberies in cities throughout Java and Sumatra.

The syndicate mainly targets drugstores, stealing prescription medicine that it sells on the black market.

Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Firman Gani conferred honorary certificates on Monday to the officers who arrested the suspects. -- JP
