Police nab mirror thieves

JAKARTA: Taman Sari district police in West Jakarta arrested five persons on suspicion of stealing vehicle wing mirrors on Thursday.

In addition to arresting the suspected thieves, who usually operated in front of Bank BNI 46 on Jl. Lada in West Jakarta, police also arrested the buyer of the stolen goods.

The buyer allegedly buys the mirrors from the thieves for Rp 100,000 (US$11) and sells them for Rp 200,000.

Taman Sari District Police chief Comr. Tornagogo Sihombing said that following complaints from victims, the police raided the area leading to the capture of the five suspected thieves.

The thieves usually operated during rush hour, when traffic is at a standstill. Their actions caused widespread uneasiness among motorists, who found themselves unable to do anything to stop the thieves. --Antara
