Police nab candy bandits

BOGOR: Bogor Police have arrested six robbers, including two drivers, who stole 800 boxes of Mentos candy worth Rp 300 million from two container trucks last month.

Bogor Police subprecinct deputy chief Comr. Edi S. Tambunan said on Monday that the criminals were nabbed when after trying to sell the candy in Ririn Hotel, Bogor.

The arrested criminals include Sarkum alias Agus, 39, the resident of Puspanegara in Citereup, H. Abdurahman alias Oom, 52 from Karang Asem in Citereup, Suherman alias Rara, 31, from Gunung Punjul in Sukabumi, Asep, 35, and the two drivers of the trucks, namely Ridwan, 37, and Endang, 30, who are both from Cilincing in North Jakarta.

The police officer said that they committed the crime on May 16, when the two drivers transported the goods using trucks from PT Van Melle, the candy producer in Nanggewer, Bogor. The criminals stole all of the contents and replaced them with sand in the containers. --JP
