Police: Mother in Koja Was Wrong Target of Molotov Attack

A mother carrying her child on a motorcycle in Koja, North Jakarta, was struck by a Molotov cocktail. Police stated the victim was a wrong target. Koja Police Chief Kompol Andry Suharto explained that the perpetrator was actually targeting the uncle of his ex-wife, but the victim happened to be passing by the location. “It was not aimed at the mother; she was passing by unintentionally. The perpetrator threw it at the uncle of his ex-wife’s partner, but missed,” Kompol Andry Suharto told reporters on Tuesday (23/6/2026). At the same time, the victim, who was carrying her child, was passing through Jalan Mandiri II, Koja, North Jakarta. The Molotov cocktail then fell and hit the motorcycle’s dashboard. “It fell on the road and ignited, and the victim’s motorcycle passed by, causing her to be startled and fall,” he said. Andry clarified that the victim had no knowledge of why she was targeted. “She knows nothing about the matter,” he stated. Previously, Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said the Molotov cocktail attack occurred at 09:00 WIB on Jalan Mandiri II, Rawa Badak Selatan Village, Koja District, North Jakarta. That morning, the victim was riding a motorcycle heading to the market. “At the time of the incident, the female victim was passing by on a motorcycle heading to the market when she was affected by the attack, causing the dashboard of her motorcycle to catch fire,” explained Commissioner Budi Hermanto in a statement on Monday (22/6). Police have inspected the scene and reviewed CCTV footage. Based on the surveillance recordings, approximately four perpetrators have been identified. “From the CCTV footage, it is suspected that there were around four perpetrators,” he added.
