Police: Menteng Robbery Was Actually a Premeditated Murder Attempt by Colleague
Jakarta - Police have revealed that the robbery and stabbing of a male victim, identified by the initials MHA (30), on Jalan Pati, Menteng, Central Jakarta, last Tuesday (16/6), was a scenario orchestrated by a female colleague, USP (31), to carry out an attempted murder.
“The charges applied are Article 466 regarding assault and Article 459 in conjunction with Article 17 paragraph 1, which pertains to premeditated attempted murder,” said the Head of Criminal Investigation of Central Jakarta Police, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, during a press conference at the Central Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters on Friday.
Roby stated that the police initially received a report from the Menteng Sector Police on Tuesday (16/6) afternoon at 4:00 PM WIB. The report identified one injured male victim, MHA, and one female witness, USP, present at the crime scene.
The victim, serving as the President Director, and the witness, serving as a Commissioner of an IT company and a colleague, were at the witness’s residence. The witness initially claimed that two individuals suddenly robbed the house and engaged in an altercation with the victim on the upper floor. The witness, who was on the ground floor, heard the commotion and went upstairs armed with a frying pan and an electric shock device for protection.
“It turned out those two individuals were holding MHA hostage. To release the victim, the witness surrendered her valuables, including 200 grams of gold bars and approximately 300 grams of other gold jewellery. After the handover, the two perpetrators reportedly injured MHA,” Roby explained.
Police initially accepted this report based on the witness’s statement at the scene. However, following a scientific investigation, police discovered inconsistencies in the witness’s testimony, the physical evidence, and statements from other witnesses examined.
“Based on the initial testimony from USP, we suspected it was false. Upon investigation, we found that no two intruders had entered the house; instead, the perpetrator of the assault on MHA was USP herself,” he said.
Furthermore, investigators were alerted by a significant time gap between the incident and the police report. “The initial suspicion arose from the timing of the incident versus the reporting. There was a substantial delay of more than one hour between the occurrence and the report,” Roby added.
The perpetrator eventually confessed and provided the true chronology. Roby revealed that the suspect and the victim were alone at the suspect’s house. The victim was staying overnight after completing an out-of-town business trip with the suspect, as they were scheduled to travel to Bali the following day.
During the incident, the suspect instructed the victim to hold a cloth connected to an electric cable, causing him to be electrocuted and fall for approximately six to eight seconds. Seeing the victim unconscious, the suspect panicked and proceeded to assault him using a nitrogen cylinder, a frying pan, and a knife. The victim sustained seven stab wounds.
Consequently, the police have uncovered that the case, initially reported as a robbery-turned-stabbing, was actually an attempted murder perpetrated by the suspect against her subordinate.
