Police mediate dispute after car allegedly runs red light in Central Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Menteng Metropolitan Police mediated a dispute between a car driver and a security guard that arose after an alleged traffic violation in the MH Thamrin area, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Menteng Police Chief AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu stated that both parties visited the Thamrin Police Post after the incident and requested assistance to resolve the matter through mediation. “As a result of the mediation, both parties agreed to forgive each other,” Braiel said in Jakarta on Thursday.

Braiel explained that the mediation process took place on the same day and produced a peace agreement, allowing the dispute to be settled amicably. The incident reportedly began when a car allegedly ran a red light at a zebra crossing in front of the Pullman Hotel on Jalan MH Thamrin around midday. A security guard, identified as V, who was about to cross the road, tapped the car’s body as a form of reprimand, which then triggered the altercation.

Braiel confirmed that no violence was found to have occurred during the incident. Meanwhile, the alleged traffic violation, including the suspected misuse of the vehicle’s number plate, will be handled separately by the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of the Polda Metro Jaya. The police are also investigating claims circulating on social media that the security guard was intimidated, forced to prostrate, or threatened with job loss. “So far, no specific information or evidence has been found to support these allegations,” Braiel added.

He further stated that if any party remains dissatisfied with the mediation outcome or feels aggrieved, they are welcome to file a police report so the matter can be processed according to applicable legal procedures. “Please make a report and we will follow it up according to procedure. If there is other evidence, we will certainly process it in accordance with the provisions,” Braiel said.
