Police manage traffic on Trans Sulawesi route in Parimo due to flooding

Police are currently managing traffic on the Trans Sulawesi route, which was temporarily paralysed by flooding and landslides in Kasimbar District, Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi.

“Traffic was paralysed because the road was buried by landslides and affected by flooding. The road is now passable, but still one-way only,” said Kasimbar Police Chief Ipda I Komang Sukania when contacted from Palu on Friday.

He explained that the incident not only affected local residents but also road users.

“There is no alternative route other than the Trans Sulawesi route. So we continue to work to clear the material so that traffic flows smoothly,” he said.

He also urged motorists to remain cautious when passing through because the road surface is still wet and covered in mud.

He said around 21 police personnel have been deployed to handle the flooding and landslides in Kasimbar District.

According to data from the Parigi Moutong BPBD operations control centre, flooding hit four villages in Kasimbar District: Labuan Donggulu, Laemanta, North Laemanta and Peningka.

Around six landslide points were reported on the Trans Sulawesi route, causing traffic to be temporarily paralysed. The hydrometeorological disaster occurred on Friday morning (28/8), triggered by heavy rain that fell across the Parigi Moutong area.
