Police Line Installed at East Jakarta Culvert Where Three Workers Died

A police line has been installed at the scene of a fatal workplace accident in a culvert in the Bambu Apus area of Cipayung, East Jakarta, which claimed the lives of three workers.

Based on monitoring at Jalan Raya Mabes Hankam, Bambu Apus, Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Saturday (11/7/2026), the culvert hole where the incident occurred was fenced off with red plastic barriers. Police line was also placed around the area.

The location is situated directly next to the Transjakarta bus stop at Gate 3 of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII). The culvert hole, which has a diameter of approximately 60 centimetres, appeared to have been covered.

A no-entry sign was also installed in front of the site. Meanwhile, traffic flow along Jalan Raya Mabes Hankam was observed to be busy but moving smoothly.

No work activity was visible at the location. The crime scene area remained sterile, with no workers present in the vicinity.

The incident occurred on Thursday (9/7). Fire and rescue officers received a request for victim evacuation at 09.49 Western Indonesia Time. The victims were successfully evacuated at around 11.55 Western Indonesia Time.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that one of the deceased workers was a foreign national. Pramono said all three were subcontractors or third-party workers engaged in the project.

“I have received a report from the President Director of PAM Jaya. It is true that there were three people,” Pramono said in the Cawang area of East Jakarta on Friday (10/7).

Pramono explained that of the three victims who died, one was a foreign national, while the other two were Indonesian citizens.

“Of the three people, one was a foreign national, so two were our citizens,” he stated.
