Police kill car thief
JAKARTA (JP): Police shot to death Joko Bokor Fauzi, one of four gang members suspected of stealing luxury cars in South Jakarta.
South Jakarta police chief Lt. Col. SY Wenas said on Monday that police officers were forced to shoot the suspect because he tried to run while being arrested.
The other three suspects, Purwadi, Dargo and Ichsan, suffered injuries, Wenas said.
The police believe that the four ran a theft ring which operated in several areas around the city.
Wenas said that the four suspects stole a BMW, a Starlet, a Honda Maestro and Kijangs. All the vehicles have been impounded at the South Jakarta police office.
"The public, whose cars were stolen by this gang, can contact the South Jakarta police office and bring with them copies of the necessary documents, including citizenship cards and their vehicle papers," Wenas said. (hhr)
