Police Involve Meta to Trace Digital Footprint of Taufik Hidayat, Suspect in Three-Year Confinement of Girlfriend
Police are continuing to hunt for Taufik Hidayat (30), the perpetrator of abuse and confinement against his girlfriend, identified by the initials YTR (29), over a three-year period in Bandung. Authorities have now involved Meta Platforms in tracing the suspect’s digital footprint.
“We are also cooperating with overseas parties, namely in the cyber field, Meta, which manages or controls data on social media,” said West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, as quoted by detikJabar on Tuesday (23/6/2026).
Rudi stated that Meta’s involvement is intended to help uncover the history of Taufik’s presence on social media. This information is expected to pave the way for police to determine Taufik’s current position.
“To be able to detect from social media so that it can show the whereabouts of the person concerned,” he revealed.
Currently, several directorates within the West Java Regional Police, including the Narcotics Directorate, the General Criminal Investigation Directorate, the Cybercrime Directorate, and the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate, have been deployed to search for the perpetrator. The West Java Police have also coordinated with the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri).
“A team has been fully formed, a team moving on the suspected narcotics angle we have created to detect and trace the potential involvement of the perpetrator in drugs. Cyber, we are also deepening the cyber aspect, general crimes, special crimes, and all kinds of work,” he said.
