Police involve KPAI and Bapas in South Jakarta murder case
The Metro Jaya Regional Police will involve the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) and the Correctional Centre (Bapas) to handle the murder case of a woman at a hotel in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta.
Metro Jaya Regional Police Head of Public Relations, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, explained that this step was taken because the perpetrator, who was apprehended by the Sub-Directorate of Crimes (Subdit Jatanras) shortly after the incident, is still classified as a child in conflict with the law (ABH).
“The legal process will continue. Investigators will certainly involve Bapas and KPAI. Since this involves a minor, it is not just about the legal process, but also about providing psychological assistance for the child in conflict with the law,” Budi stated in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He noted that in accordance with applicable regulations and laws, the police emphasise that they cannot publish the identity or specific details regarding the perpetrator to protect the rights of the child.
Regarding the motive for the murder, Budi revealed initial indications that the perpetrator intended to seize the victim’s valuables, including a mobile phone and several other items. “This motive may change from the initial investigation or interrogation phase. Therefore, adjustments must be made, and investigators will certainly reconcile the facts at the crime scene, witness statements, and the suspect’s testimony,” Budi said.
As previously reported, the Metro Jaya Regional Police arrested the suspect in the murder of a woman identified by the initials L (20), whose body was discovered in a hotel in the Kebayron Baru area, South Jakarta, on Friday (29/5).
“It is true, the suspect has been secured. The victim was found by hotel staff lying on her back on the floor with blood present,” said Metro Jaya Regional Police Head of Public Relations, Kombes Pol B_udi Hermanto, on Sunday (31/5).
Previously, the woman, L (20), was found dead in the hotel. “The cause of death is still under investigation,” said Kebayoran Baru Police Chief AKBP Nugrahadi to reporters in Jakarta on Friday (29/5). Police discovered injuries to the victim’s head but declined to prematurely conclude the cause of death.
