Police Invite Security Guard to Report Altercation with Alphard Driver

Police have invited MRT project security guard Victor Harefa to file a report following his altercation with the driver of a Toyota Alphard who ran a red light in front of Hotel Pullman, Central Jakarta.

After the altercation, both parties were mediated at the Thamrin police post. It is suspected that, during the mediation, Victor experienced intimidation and violence.

Head of Menteng Metro Police AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu said that during the mediation both parties agreed to forgive one another. However, the police would allow a report to be filed if either party remained dissatisfied.

“I would like to convey that if the person concerned feels aggrieved or uncomfortable with the driver, we invite him to file a report,” Braiel told journalists on Friday (24/7).

Braiel stated that his side would follow up on any report in accordance with prevailing legal rules and regulations.

“We invite him to do so and will follow it up in accordance with the process, the legal procedure,” he said.

Nevertheless, Braiel claimed that so far his side had found no acts of violence or intimidation during the mediation at the Thamrin police post.

“So we are still clarifying with the person concerned how the process unfolded at the time, what actually happened. But what is clear is that at the time there was no violence experienced by the person concerned. There was no beating or violent acts, none at all,” he said.

Previously, a video circulated on social media recording a Toyota Alphard running a red light at a pelican crossing in front of Hotel Pullman, Central Jakarta, leading to an altercation with a security guard.

The incident began when several pedestrians were crossing at the pelican crossing after the traffic light turned red for vehicles. However, an Alphard continued driving and ran the red light.

A security guard who was also crossing then reprimanded the Alphard driver. However, the driver was reportedly displeased with the reprimand.

“The security guard then reprimanded the driver by banging on the car window. The driver did not accept the guard’s actions and a verbal altercation ensued,” Braiel said.

According to Braiel, both parties then went to the police post to seek assistance in resolving the matter through mediation. Subsequently, both sides agreed to make peace.

Later, the black Toyota Alphard was suspected of using false number plates or plates not matching the vehicle’s registration. The vehicle bore the registration number D 1828 XHQ.

Based on checks by CNNIndonesia.com on the Samsat service on the official West Java Regional Revenue Agency website (https://bapenda.jabarprov.go.id/infopkb), the registration number used is recorded for a Daihatsu, silver metallic in colour, model S401RV-ZMDEJJ HJ.

Regarding this matter, Head of the Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police Traffic Directorate AKBP Ojo Ruslani said his side was also looking into the use of the plates. He said his side would summon both the Alphard driver and the security guard for questioning.

“I will issue a summons for clarification to the owner of the Alphard. Then a summons for clarification to the security guard involved in the altercation with the Alphard driver. After that, we will confront the two at the Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate,” Ojo said.
