Police Invite Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa's Legal Team to File Pretrial Motion

Polda Metro Jaya has arrested Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa, suspects in the case of alleged fake diploma accusations against Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), as their case files are now complete. Police emphasised that the legal process has been carried out in accordance with regulations.

Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, stated that the arrests of Roy and Tifa were part of completing their case files. Police have an obligation to promptly transfer the suspects and evidence to the prosecutors.

“Today we, the investigators from the Polda Metro Jaya General Criminal Investigation Directorate, have secured the suspects, namely Mr RS and Ms TF, as part of the process to hand over the suspects and evidence from the investigators to the public prosecutors of the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office, in connection with the case file which has been declared complete or P21,” Iman said during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (19/6/2026).

Iman stated that his party is prepared if the legal process against Roy and Tifa is formally tested. Polda Metro Jaya, he said, will respect it if the suspects’ legal teams decide to challenge the legal status and the arrest through a pretrial motion mechanism as regulated in the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

“To ensure balance and control over the ongoing investigation process, the Criminal Procedure Code provides room for testing through a pretrial mechanism. Therefore, the suspects, their families, or their legal counsel may use the control and testing mechanism regulated in the Criminal Procedure Code,” Iman stated.

“We will maintain and ensure that the entire law enforcement process we carry out is conducted professionally, transparently, fairly, and accountably,” he continued.

Iman also assured that the rights of Roy and Tifa as suspects will be fulfilled by investigators. “We ensure that investigators will guarantee the rights and obligations of the suspects are protected,” he added.

Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa were arrested in connection with the case of alleged fake diploma accusations against Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Polda Metro Jaya stressed that the arrest was not targeting the individuals personally, but rather the alleged criminal acts involving Roy and Tifa.

“This law enforcement is not directed at the person or their views, but at the actions that are suspected of violating criminal provisions,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto.
