Police have intervened to investigate the phenomenon of recurring fires at the home of Mutfia, also known as Fia, in Seyegan, Sleman. The investigation was launched after UPN and UGM declared that the mysterious fires were not a natural phenomenon.

Sleman Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, AKP Mateus Wiwit Kustiyadi, stated that his team will seek to determine whether there was any element of intent in the incident. “Later, whether there are things beyond natural phenomena, we will still gather information so that the facts will be revealed after this,” Wiwit said when met at the Sleman Regent’s Office on Monday (15/6/2026).

His party has not yet conducted an investigation regarding the possibility of criminal elements in this case. Police are still working to uncover the facts on the ground. “In this case, we are looking for facts. Where will these facts lead us? So, we are gathering the facts that exist in the field,” he said.

Previously, the Chief Executive of the Sleman Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Bambang Kuntoro, delivered the final research results regarding the mysterious ‘Fire House’ phenomenon in Seyegan. Bambang stated that the conclusion is that the appearance of the mysterious fires has no connection to natural phenomena.

“The essence is that from the fire phenomenon that appeared in Seyegan, based on the research results all conveyed earlier, there is no connection (to natural phenomena) with the fire that appeared. Natural phenomena do not cause the fires that appeared in Seyegan,” Bambang told reporters at the Sleman Regent’s Office on Monday (15/6).

In the statement delivered, no strong evidence was found that the fire appeared naturally. Based on sample tests of fire residue from the scene conducted by UGM, the analysis associated the residue with the presence of PVC resin, which is flammable when it encounters a source of fire.

Based on the results of field geological observations and geophysical studies conducted by UPN ‘Veteran’ Yogyakarta, no relationship was found between the recurring fire incidents and the surrounding geological conditions or the presence of gas bubbles in the Nepen River.

Meanwhile, based on test results from BPPTKG, no indications of hazardous natural gases that could cause fires were found, and based on temperature measurements, no significant temperature anomalies indicating a trigger for the fire were discovered. “The gas content, whether methane, hydrogen, phosphine gas, or swamp gas, from each of these, it cannot or is below the threshold to be able to cause fire,” he stressed.
