Police Investigate Viral Video of Lawyer Stabbed by Debt Collector in Tangerang
Police are investigating a viral video depicting an alleged stabbing involving debt collectors, known locally as “mata elang” (matel), in the Kelapa Dua area of Tangerang Regency, Banten.
In response, South Tangerang Police Chief AKBP Boy Jumalolo said his team is actively pursuing the suspects believed to be involved in the incident.
“We are searching for the perpetrators. They must be dealt with firmly,” Boy said when contacted on Tuesday (24 February).
He explained that the incident took place at the entrance to the Livera Cluster housing estate in Bencongan Village, Kelapa Dua District.
“The crime scene relates to an alleged stabbing of the victim during a vehicle repossession by debt collectors. The stabbing occurred at the entrance to the Livera Cluster housing estate, Bencongan Village, Kelapa Dua District,” he said.
Boy confirmed that investigators are still examining the case, including the motive and chronology of events. He assured the public that the police would not tolerate any form of violence threatening the safety of residents.
“Investigators are still looking into it. There is no room for violence that threatens public safety, especially acts that endanger lives. The perpetrators will certainly face firm action,” he stressed.
In the viral video, a woman can be heard screaming hysterically as several men allegedly attempted to seize her white vehicle.
“Help, help, these are debt collectors,” the woman shouted in the recording.
The woman also stated that her husband had been stabbed during the incident.
“My husband has been stabbed. Police, please help,” she said.
