Police Investigate Viral Video of Couple Engaging in Indecent Acts in an Online Taxi

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – The police have admitted that they are still investigating a viral video of a couple suspected of openly engaging in lewd acts during a journey in an online taxi. The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Tanah Abang, Kompol M Islami, explained that so far, they have only taken the statement of the taxi driver featured in the video.

“The investigation is still ongoing; we have already taken the statement from the online taxi driver,” said Islami when contacted, Sunday (15 February).

Islami stated that the police have obtained the identity of the passengers suspected of committing the lewd acts. He assured that they will soon examine the individuals involved. “We have already obtained the identity of the online taxi passengers. In the future, we will conduct an examination,” he said.

A driver with the initials AR shared his experience of transporting a couple of passengers who were suspected of being intimate during the trip. In the viral video, AR received an order from Central Jakarta to South Jakarta. Midway through the journey, he became suspicious because the female passenger kept lying down and resting her head on the man’s lap. To confirm his suspicions, AR tried to adjust the centre rear-view mirror of his car and discovered the two engaging in obscene acts.

“I started to lower the centre rear-view mirror, I lowered the centre rear-view mirror. Then I began to reprimand them,” explained AR to journalists, Thursday (12 February).
