Police Investigate Reports Against Ade Armando and Permadi Arya
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Metro Jaya Regional Police are investigating reports against two social media activists, Ade Armando and Permadi Arya, over an alleged case of incitement and provocation on social media.
“The suspects are under preliminary investigation,” said the Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Budi also mentioned that the reports relate to video content uploaded on the YouTube social media platform via the Cokro TV channel.
Previously, the Maluku Advocacy Profession Alliance (APAM) reported the two social media activists, Ade Armando and Permadi Arya, to Metro Jaya Regional Police in South Jakarta on Monday (20/4) for allegedly committing incitement and provocation.
“Today, we visited Metro Jaya Regional Police to file a police report regarding the alleged criminal acts of incitement and provocation purportedly committed by Ade Armando and Permadi Arya through social media,” said the APAM representative and complainant, Paman Nurlette, when met at the Metro Jaya Regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit on Monday (20/4).
Paman explained that according to the provisions of Article 1 paragraph 3 of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, Indonesia is a state based on law, which implies that all existing problems should be processed through the applicable legal channels.
“Therefore, as law-abiding citizens with ethical awareness, we come to report Ade Armando and Permadi Arya in the hope that they will be processed through the applicable legal channels to provide justice that is certain, certainty that is just, and beneficial for all the people of Indonesia,” he said.
Paman stated that the report was filed because excerpts of a speech by Mr Jusuf Kalla during a lecture at the UGM Campus Mosque pulpit had been edited and then distributed or transmitted by Ade Armando via the Cokro TV YouTube channel and Permadi Arya’s Facebook account, causing real uproar and disturbance in public spaces and society.
“This has ignited negative views, hatred, and enmity from certain religious communities to attack the honour and dignity of Mr Jusuf Kalla, and they even attacked Islam, the Al-Qur’an, and Prophet Muhammad SAW,” he said.
He also believes that if the video had been uploaded in its entirety, without being edited as it is now, the public would not have been contaminated, and the public would not have been provoked by such a video.
