Police Investigate Potential Additional Victims in Buleleng Orphanage Case

Police are tracing other victims in the case of alleged abuse up to rape at the Ganesha Sevanam Orphanage, Jagaraga Village, Sawan Subdistrict, Buleleng, Bali. The Buleleng Police Resort (Polres Buleleng) has opened a complaint service for anyone brave enough to report.

“If anyone feels they have been a victim, we still provide the opportunity to report as long as it is related to this case. We are very concerned about sexual crimes, especially against women and children,” emphasised Buleleng Police Chief, AKBP Ruzi Gusman, on Monday (6/4/2026).

Polres Buleleng provides various reporting channels for unidentified victims. Victims from the community can come directly to the police station, contact the emergency service 110, or go through social services and child protection institutions.

“We guarantee the confidentiality of the reporter’s identity; the important thing is to speak up. All information will definitely be followed up,” stressed Ruzi.

Ruzi revealed that all children who were previously at the orphanage have been secured, leaving only two who are still under temporary handling.

“The children there have been secured, and only two remain. They are temporarily secured for now and will later be placed in institutions that can accommodate them,” said Ruzi.

Ruzi emphasised that the investigation into this abuse and rape case is still focused on deepening the statements of the secured victims. However, he assured that the case could still develop significantly.

Examinations of victims, continued Ruzi, are conducted carefully, considering their psychological condition. This is important given that the majority of victims are women and children.

“We must pay attention to the psychological aspect of the victims. If there are developments or additional statements later, we will certainly conduct further examinations,” revealed Ruzi.

Nevertheless, he acknowledged that the investigation has not yet shown significant progress. Investigators are still focused on collecting and clustering evidence to strengthen the case file before handing it over to the prosecutor.

“With the evidence we have collected in the investigation process, there has indeed not been significant development. We are endeavouring to complete the case file so that we can soon coordinate with the prosecutor,” explained Ruzi.

Ruzi committed to resolving this case as quickly as possible. Investigators continue to work in shifts to collect evidence and finalise the case file so that it can soon be handed over to the next stage.

Ruzi also assured that the number of witnesses in this case is deemed sufficient. However, strengthening the proof remains the top priority. According to him, the suspect’s confession is not the only basis in handling the case.

“Under the latest law, the suspect may confess or not. Our task is to fulfil the evidence, which will then be tested in court,” stressed Ruzi.
