Police Investigate Origin of Airsoft Gun Brandished by Adam Deni During North Jakarta Rampage
Police are continuing to investigate the case of Adam Deni Gearaka (ADG), who went on a rampage and damaged a shop in North Jakarta, including probing the origin of the airsoft gun he brandished.
“We will conduct an examination with an expert regarding the possession of the firearm and will also investigate how or where the suspect obtained the item,” said North Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Chief of Criminal Investigation, AKP Bima Sakti, on Monday (22/6/2026).
Adam Deni has been named a suspect and is facing multiple charges. “The articles applied here include Article 306 of the 2023 Criminal Code concerning the possession of an object or item suspected to be a firearm, and also the article on vandalism, namely Article 521 of the 2023 Criminal Code,” Bima stated.
He explained that Adam Deni faces a prison sentence of 2.5 years for the destruction of property and up to 15 years for the possession of a firearm. The victim suffered material losses of up to Rp 15 million. “In this case, the victim suffered losses of approximately 15 million rupiah,” Bima clarified.
Bima also revealed the motive behind Adam Deni’s destructive actions and his brandishing of a firearm at the victim, the shop owner. Police stated that Adam Deni admitted to being upset and angry over remarks the victim made to his female friend, a former employee of the shop.
“Regarding the motive, the suspect ADG was somewhat emotional towards the shop owner because his friend or close acquaintance had a prior issue with the owner of the establishment,” Bima said. “As a result, the suspect ADG could not accept this and went to the crime scene, damaging property and threatening other witnesses there.”
Investigators are still looking into the statements made by Adam Deni, who was arrested after damaging the Yummy Coin shop on Jalan Terusan Kelapa Hibrida, Sukapura, Cilincing, North Jakarta, on Wednesday evening (17/6). In addition to destroying the shop’s property, Adam Deni also brandished an airsoft gun to intimidate the victim.
