Police Investigate Network Supplying Thousands of Illegal Pills in Tangerang
Tangerang City Metro Police are investigating a supply network responsible for thousands of prescription drug tablets suspected of being intended for illegal distribution, following the arrest of a suspect in the case.
The Chief of Tangerang City Metro Police, Kombes Pol. Raden Muhammad Jauhari, stated in Tangerang on Sunday that investigators are still tracing the origin of the drugs, the distribution routes, and the potential involvement of other perpetrators.
“At this time, investigators are still delving into the origin of these prescription drugs, their distribution network, and the possibility of other actors involved in the circulation,” said Jauhari.
He urged the public not to purchase or consume prescription drugs without a prescription and medical supervision, as doing so can endanger health and potentially trigger criminal activities, including brawls involving teenagers.
The Police Chief also requested that the public immediately report to the police or via the 110 call centre if they become aware of the unauthorised sale of Tramadol, Heximer, or other prescription drugs.
During the operation, police seized 2,650 tablets of Tramadol, 2,000 tablets of Heximer, one mobile phone, one Honda Beat motorcycle, and a number of clear plastic clips suspected of being used to package the drugs before distribution.
The Neglasari Police Chief, AKP Imron Mas’adi, stated that the case was uncovered following information from the community regarding a planned illegal drug transaction.
“Based on the information we received, there was going to be a transaction of prescription drugs using a COD (Cash on Delivery) system. The team immediately conducted an investigation and tracked the target, eventually managing to apprehend the perpetrator in the Buaran Mangga village area, Pakuhaji district,” he said.
Upon searching the suspect and the motorcycle used, officers discovered thousands of prescription drug tablets stored inside the vehicle’s seat compartment.
The suspect is facing charges for violating Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 regarding Criminal Law Adjustment, for the alleged distribution of pharmaceutical preparations that do not meet regulations and for practising pharmacy without authorisation.
