Police Investigate Motive of Bomb Threat Suspect at South Jakarta Primary School

The police are investigating the motive of a man with the initials MY (34), the perpetrator of a bomb threat at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, after he was apprehended near the scene on Monday. “We are still investigating the motive at this time. We will involve forensic psychology and also apply scientific crime investigation,” said Acting Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the South Jakarta Metro Police, Ipda Alpino De Tech, at the South Jakarta Metro Police headquarters on Monday. Alpino explained that MY, who works as a self-employed individual, was apprehended at his home, which is not far from the school crime scene. The suspect did not resist during the arrest. “The suspected perpetrator was apprehended at 12.20 p.m. Western Indonesian Time in Gang Kidan, Srengseng Sawah Village, Jagakarsa District, South Jakarta,” he said. During the arrest, the police also seized the suspect’s mobile phone as evidence. “We will conduct digital forensics on the suspect’s mobile phone,” he stated. The police are investigating the bomb threat at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi, which occurred on the first day of the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS). The police received a report of the bomb threat at 7.30 a.m. WIB, while students and teachers were holding a ceremony on the first day of MPLS. The threat originated from a private message via the WhatsApp application received by a first-grade teacher and an administrative staff member. The content of the WhatsApp message included a threat to detonate bombs at 11 points in the school and a demand not to report the matter to the police. The school subsequently reported the threat to the police, who immediately conducted a sweep of the area.
