Police Investigate Motive Behind Suicide of Man in North Jakarta, Suspected to be Linked to Online Loans
The Kelapa Gading Police Station in North Jakarta is investigating the motive behind the suicide of a 29-year-old man, MAA, who was found dead in his rented home. The tragic incident occurred in a rented house on Jalan Puskesmas, Kelapa Gading Timur, North Jakarta.
AK Kiki Tanlim, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Kelapa Gading Police Station, confirmed that the police had evacuated the victim’s body for further investigation.
“Currently, the victim’s body has been sent to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for a forensic examination to complete the investigation process,” said Kiki in Jakarta, Thursday (February 26).
Economic Motive
Based on preliminary investigations of several witnesses, including the victim’s wife, the strong suspicion is that the motive for taking his own life is related to financial pressure.
The victim’s wife revealed that her husband often talked about his financial burdens. The victim was known to have a large amount of outstanding online loan debt that he could not repay. This condition was exacerbated by financial losses due to online slot gambling.
“The victim worked as a driver at the tax office and had no health complaints,” Kiki added.
Chronology of Events
The police received a report about the incident on Wednesday (February 25) night at around 11:37 PM. Upon arrival at the location, officers immediately secured the crime scene.
“We immediately secured the crime scene and contacted the Identification Unit of the North Jakarta Metro Police to conduct an identification,” he explained.
According to the victim’s wife, the incident began when they were both at the rented house after the victim returned from work. While his wife went into the room to rest, the victim was still seen on the terrace of the house.
However, when the victim’s wife woke up and was about to go to the bathroom, she found the bathroom door closed and difficult to open. Feeling suspicious, she then asked for help from a neighbor to break down the door. “The victim’s wife and two witnesses broke down the door and saw the victim had died,” Kiki concluded. (Ant/P-2)
