Police Investigate Motive Behind Depok Murder and Mutilation
Police are investigating the motive of Saepul (26), who was arrested for the murder and mutilation of a man identified as K (51) at a rented house in Cipayung, Depok. The suspect and victim were acquainted through social media.
Katimsus 2 Unit 1 Subdit Resmob Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, Ipda Breggy Yesaya Imanuel Sutijono, stated that investigators are still examining the suspect’s account to uncover the true motive, noting that the suspect had seized the victim’s motorcycle and belongings. “The motive for the murder is still being investigated. However, facts have emerged suggesting the suspect is a homosexual,” Ipda Breggy said on Wednesday (5/8/2026).
Breggy added that the victim and the suspect only knew each other through social media. “The relationship between the suspect and the victim was merely an acquaintance, nothing more,” he added. Saepul was arrested in the Pandeglang area, Banten, at 4.15 a.m. local time by the Subdit Resmob Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya team. During the arrest, police seized evidence belonging to the victim that was in the suspect’s possession. “Among the evidence we secured were the victim’s mobile phone and money from the sale of the victim’s phone and motorcycle,” he stated.
In a video recording obtained by journalists, the suspect confessed he was upset after being slapped by the victim during an argument. The suspect retaliated by stabbing the victim in the abdomen and neck. “I struggled, then he slapped me. I pushed him, I wanted to scream, then I was pushed down the stairs. Once I was pushed down, I grabbed a knife and stabbed him in this area (the waist),” Saepul said in the video recording.
Saepul’s anger peaked when the victim fought back. He then stabbed the victim in the stomach, causing injury. “Then he struggled again, kicking me. I got even angrier. I just held his head; his hands couldn’t fight back because he was holding his stomach. I held his head and slit his throat,” he revealed. Saepul admitted to mutilating the body because he was unable to carry the corpse. He mutilated the victim to eliminate evidence. “Because it was difficult to carry him. The area was crowded with people and housing,” Saepul said when asked about the reason for the mutilation. After mutilating the victim, Saepul disposed of the evidence, including the knife and the victim’s clothes, in a rubbish bin on the side of a road in the Pitara area, Depok. Saepul then fled with the victim’s motorcycle and mobile phone and sold them in Pandeglang.
