Police Investigate Molotov Cocktail Attack on Female Motorcyclist in North Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police are investigating an incident in which a bottle, suspected to be a Molotov cocktail, was thrown by a group of unknown individuals at a female motorcyclist in the Rawa Badak Selatan area of North Jakarta. “Based on the initial report, it is true that an incident involving the throwing of a suspected Molotov cocktail occurred on Monday (22/6) at around 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. He explained that the incident took place on Jalan Mandiri II, Rawa Badak Selatan Urban Village, Koja District, North Jakarta. According to the chronology of events, the victim, a woman, was riding her motorcycle towards the local market. “Suddenly, the victim was affected by the throwing of the suspected Molotov cocktail, causing the dashboard of her motorcycle to catch fire,” Budi said. He added that officers from the Koja Police Sector have visited and processed the crime scene to gather initial evidence. Police have also secured evidence including CCTV footage and fragments of the Molotov cocktail bottle for further investigation, and have directed the victim to file an official police report. “Currently, the case is under intensive investigation by the Criminal Investigation Unit to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, as well as to uncover the motive behind the attack,” Budi stated. A video previously circulated on the Instagram social media account @jakarta.trending showing an object, suspected to be a Molotov cocktail, being thrown at a motorcyclist. “Fortunately, the fire did not spread, so it did not burn the victim’s vehicle or the surrounding residents’ houses,” the account wrote.
