Police are investigating a Molotov cocktail attack on the home of an advocate in the Ciracas area of East Jakarta. The Head of Public Relations for the East Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Made Budi, stated that the incident occurred at the residence of Sulardi in the early hours of Tuesday (1/7). He said the alleged attempted arson and vandalism is currently under investigation. “The crime scene is suspected to be an attempted burning and destruction,” he said in a written statement on Saturday (4/7). He explained that, based on witness accounts, the incident began when two suspected perpetrators arrived at the location on a motorcycle. The pair were reportedly carrying a bottle suspected of containing flammable material. “According to the statements of witnesses who were at the scene, the act was carried out by two suspected perpetrators using a motorcycle, carrying a bottle with indications of a Molotov cocktail,” Made said. The suspects then threw the Molotov cocktail towards the victim’s fence before fleeing. He stated that investigators have questioned two witnesses, Niman and Dadang, who were at the location. However, Made said his party is still unable to confirm the motive for the Molotov cocktail attack. “The witnesses saw the suspected perpetrators throw a bottle with indications of a Molotov cocktail towards the victim’s fence. The suspected perpetrators then left the scene,” he concluded.
