Police investigate man found hanging from tree near Lake Sunter

The discovery of a man’s body near Lake Sunter in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, has shocked local residents. The victim, identified as MS, 42, was found dead hanging from a tree.

Iptu Maryati Jonggi, Head of Public Relations for the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police, stated the victim was discovered on Friday, 29 May 2026, at approximately 5:44 AM WIB. The body was subsequently transported to Kramat Jati Police Hospital in East Jakarta.

‘The Forensic and Identification Unit of North Jakarta Metropolitan Police, along with Tanjung Priok Police Station personnel led by Reskrim Sub-Unit Head Ipda Imam Syaifudin, have conducted a crime scene inspection,’ Jonggi said when asked for confirmation on Friday.

‘Identification and documentation of the victim, recording of details, witness statements, medical examination, contacting the family, and transferring the body to Kramat Jati Police Hospital,’ she added.

The incident was captured in amateur video and went viral on social media. While online narratives suggested suicide by hanging, Jonggi confirmed the cause of death remains under investigation.

‘Please allow time for the investigation,’ she added.
